Product Complexity Indicators

Australia Ratings' Product Complexity Indicator (PCI) helps investors identify the complexity of a fixed income product’s terms and conditions.

Product Complexity Indicators differentiate debt securities with similar credit attributes. The colour coding highlights the complexity of a debt security’s terms and the impact on investment returns. Our combined credit rating and product complexity indicator enables investors to consider factors relevant to their investment decisions.

Australia Ratings introduced the Product Complexity Indicator following the financial crisis in 2008-2009. The crisis highlighted the limitation, misunderstanding and possible misuse of credit ratings in debt security investments.
