About Us

Australia Ratings

Australia Ratings is Australia’s only domestic credit rating business and the country’s only agency with a retail Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).

Since August 2010, we've been providing ratings and reports on debt securities, bonds and fixed income products for Australian retail investors and the wholesale financial markets. With our independent ratings and high quality commentaries, issuing companies and investors can position themselves to have easier and transparent access to the local retail debt market.

In-depth knowledge and expertise

Our analytical team has over 55 years combined experience in assigning credit ratings and in-depth knowledge in the Australian credit market. We assess creditworthiness across a broad range of industries including:

  • Industrials
  • Utilities
  • Infrastructure
  • Financial institutions
  • Insurance
  • Managed funds
  • Securitisation
  • Relative value analysis
  • Operational capability
  • Proposed transaction’s impact

Local and independent credit analysis

Local knowledge and market factors are the focus of Australia Ratings’ credit assessments. Our ratings differentiate the degree of creditworthiness of organisations and fixed income products available to investors in the Australian financial market.

Long term ratings are assigned on a scale of ‘AAA’, ‘AA’, ‘A’, ‘BBB’, ‘BB’, ‘B’, ‘CCC’, ‘CC’ and ‘C’. Short term ratings are assigned on a scale of ‘a-1’, ‘a-2’, ‘a-3’, ‘b’ and ‘c’.

Maintaining transparency and analytical independence

Australia Ratings assigns credit ratings and product complexity indicators. Fees are paid by those requesting the ratings, typically management of Australian organisations and fixed income product sponsors. We have adopted the International Organization of Securities Commission's (IOSCO) Code of Conduct for Credit Rating Agencies and have policies and procedures to ensure conflicts of interest are managed and the analytical independence is maintained.
